Here is an American Flyer 312 Vintage S PRR K-4 Locomotive and Tender Type I from the late 1940s. It features Die Cast construction, an operating headlight, 3-position reverse unit in the boiler, realistic design, and a powerful motor. The K5 was one of AF’s most popular steam engines in the early Postwar Era. The included tender features tin-plate construction, tin-plate trucks with metal journals, link couplers, metal wheels & axles.
Introduced in its prototype form in the late 19th century, the 4-6-2 would take the world by storm at the turn of the 20th century, being seen as one of the biggest innovation in the history of locomotives — the 4-6-2 would quickly finds its place in rail-yards across the world. Heralded for its ability to haul passengers, the 4-6-2 was a versatile model hauling freight and coal as well, with tank variants being introduced later during the 20th century. Traveling at speeds upwards of 100mph the 4-6-2was featured on rail-ways ranging from Argentina to Egypt, and all the way to the far East in China!
