– The 413 series is a dual AC/DC suburban train that debuted in 1986 during the Japanese National Railways (JNR) era.
– In the 1980s, JNR increased passenger numbers in regional urban areas by operating trains more frequently with shorter train formations.
– However, previous express train models had only single sliding doors located at two places on each side of the train, which created challenges in ensuring smooth boarding and alighting during peak times.
– To address this, JNR used equipment from express trains and updated them to new suburban train models, which omitted deck areas and were equipped with double-sliding doors.
– These trains were deployed across Japan, with those designated for the Hokuriku region classified as the 413 series and retained the dual AC/DC capability like the original express trains.
– After the privatization and division of JNR, the 413 series was transferred to JR West Japan, where they were mainly active on the Hokuriku Main Line.
Train can be motorized to an N scale train and is compatible with TM-14 Motorized Chassis, TT-03R Trailer Conversion Kit and Tomix 0232 Pantograph.
